The XOGO Mini 2B is an excellent entry-level digital signage player that meets the needs of about 80% of our customers. Based on the reliable Raspberry Pi 4 platform, it offers several advantages, including ease of hardware sourcing and standardization across various regions globally. However, the Mini 2B comes with some limitations, specifically related to its Wi-Fi capabilities.
Wi-Fi Performance in Challenging Environments
The Mini 2B utilizes a basic internal Wi-Fi radio without an external antenna, making it less suitable for environments with significant Wi-Fi interference, such as large industrial settings, food and beverage establishments, or spaces with metal structures that can obstruct signals. While the device performs well in smaller or less complex spaces, it may struggle with maintaining a consistent connection in more demanding scenarios.
Recommendations for Improved Connectivity
1. Wired Ethernet Connection
For optimal performance, we recommend using the Mini 2B’s hardwired Ethernet connection. A wired connection is the preferred method for digital signage players, especially in challenging environments, ensuring consistent connectivity and reliability.
2. Consider a Device with Advanced Wi-Fi
If your setup requires wireless connectivity in environments with significant interference, consider upgrading to a device with a more advanced Wi-Fi radio and external antenna. Most of these devices offer stronger, more reliable connections and can be found by visiting www.xogo.io/hardware, where you’ll find devices with better Wi-Fi range capabilities.
3. Improved Wi-Fi Router Setup
Another option is to improve your Wi-Fi network by adding more access points or utilizing a denser router configuration. A stronger network infrastructure can help mitigate connectivity issues with the Mini 2B.
